‘Stay rowdy’: St. George boutique offers unique, hand-crafted clothing for kids – St George News

ST. GEORGE —From fringe bottoms to button-up cowboy onesies, a unique boutique features hand-made clothing by an artisan who was inspired by her own personal journey.

The founder and creator behind Rowdy R Boutique, Amie Wright, told St. George news how her business got started out of something she had originally created for herself, how perseverance led to her success and how her brand ambassadors and happy customers have become some of her closest friends.

Wright said she started her business in 2019, when her son, Ryatt, was 10 months old. She said she had a difficult time finding cute clothes for him that were different from the average baby clothes she found in stores. This led her to start making baby clothing of her own.

She said she would create the clothing pieces and post photos of her son wearing them on social media. Wright said her social media following loved the clothing and she received constant messages and comments telling her to start selling the clothing for others to purchase.

Wright said when she decided to start her own business, she only offered boys’ clothing, which took off fairly quickly online. And the boutique’s name is a story in itself; Wright said the “R” in Rowdy R Boutique represents her son Riot and that her son is pretty rowdy.

Wright said Rowdy R Boutique now sells girls’ clothes as well. She said she also offers bows and clothing sets, adult T-shirts, cups, tumblers for both adults and children, phone cases and even koozies. She said the printed designs are fairly new to her business and explained her process for creating printed Tees and other items.

“I do sublimation for most of it but I also do screen printing sublimation,” Wright said.

Write said she converted her printer into a sublimation printer. She explained that with the use of specific ink printed on paper and by pressing it onto anything polyester, gas releases the print onto products.

Wright said while looking for ways to grow her business, she made a post on Facebook stating she was looking for people to help represent her brand. She said she now has a group of girls that represents Rowdy R Boutique across the United States. She said every few months she adds new ambassadors to the team, but that she also has girls that have been with her since the beginning of her business.

Wright said her ambassadors promote Rowdy R Boutique and in exchange, they receive product discounts. She said that these relationships are much more than transactional and that she’s made many friends close friends that first started out as ambassadors. She also said that she and her ambassadors, together, came up with the Rowdy R Boutique slogan, “Stay Rowdy.”

Wright  said she even has some customers she talks to daily who are flying to Utah to attend her upcoming wedding.

“A lot of my customers have turned into friends; one of them is Mckala,” Wright said. “She started shopping with me, then repping for me, then she came out and met me last year and we became really good friends,”

Mckala Goodrich said she was introduced to the small shop world by a friend in 2019 and shortly after, applied to be a brand representative for Rowdy Boutique.

Goodrich said she offered to help take on some of the social media aspects of the business, where she would talk daily with Wright about both business ideas and about their kids and own interests, which created a great bond between them.

“January 2021, me and my two children drove almost 11 hours to finally meet Amie and her son Ryatt for the first time,” Goodrich said.

Goodrich also said she now presses the Tees for Rowdy R Boutique and is still a brand representative, with her daughter representing much of the children’s clothing. She said she has enjoyed the entire process and her involvement with the business.

“It’s crazy how fast it’s all happened but it’s been an amazing experience,” Goodrich said. “Amie gets married in September and I’m her maid of honor. I’m so thankful for the friendship and opportunities I’ve got since finding Rowdy R Boutique”

Wright said when she first started her business, many didn’t take it very seriously. She said she knows how other small business owners feel when they first start out and wanted to encourage them to keep going.

“To those out there starting a small business that feels they’re not getting the interaction they want or it’s not growing the way you hoped – I would just say keep pushing,” Wright said. “It’s very hard to run a small business but the main thing is staying consistent. Keep going. Because you will get the recognition that you want out of it.”

As for her future goals for Rowdy R Boutique, Wright said she hopes to secure a trailer and offer a mobile boutique, calling it the “Rowdy Rig,” with the goal of doing pop-up events.
